History
Millwoods Christian School has been serving the community since 1978. The school opened as an independent school under the direction of Calvary Community Church, a non-denominational church in south Edmonton. Over the years the school population steadily increased as more and more parents began to choose Christian education for their children. In 2000, the school entered into an agreement with the Edmonton Public School Board, and now operates as an alternative program with EPSB. Today, the Edmonton Public School Board offers programming that meets the goals of the alternative Christian program.
Mission & Values
Our Vision and Mission Statement forms part of the legal agreement between the Edmonton Public School Board and the Millwoods Christian School Society. This vision can be briefly summarized as follows
- The School will operate as an interdenominational, evangelical Christian school.
- God’s presence and peace will be demonstrated in the atmosphere at the school.
- Both the academic and the spiritual will be emphasized at the school.
- Teaching staff will be trained academically as well as spiritually to carry out the program of the school.
- All students who attend the school will have the opportunity to experience God’s love and know His plan of salvation and to serve Him in the school and community.
The agreement emphasizes that the spiritual nature of the school will be demonstrated in every part of its operations, that prayer will have a major focus, and that the knowledge of God will be promoted at every opportunity.
What We Believe
- We believe in one God, the Creator of all things, existing eternally in three persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s Son, born of the virgin Mary, who died on the cross, was buried, rose from the grave and ascended to the right hand of the Father.
- We believe that the grace of God provides salvation for all people through faith in Jesus Christ and His atoning work.
- We believe that Christians are to be filled with the Holy Spirit to grow in godly character and service.
- We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, supernaturally given and inspired by God.
- We believe in the hope of the return of Christ to receive the church and to judge the world in righteousness.
